She tells why they broke up and why their romance, which defied the very laws of high school hierarchy, was torn apart and ruined, despite its prior perfection. I loved that the book is told from the perspective of Min as she writes Ed a letter, pouring her heart out and analyzing everything that went wrong in their relationship. They are different and as a result, their relationship is unexpected. ![]() Ed is obsessed with basketball and swoon-worthy. Min, the enigmatic protagonist is obsessed with old movies and wants to become a director. Why We Broke Up is a story about the relationship between Min Green and Ed Slaterton, a high school junior and senior basketball jock. It started transforming into a deep and provocative look into relationships, the cracks that form even from the beginning, the lies we pretend not to see, and the desperation we hold on to. Somewhere in the middle, this book stopped being about Min and started being about me or my friends or my family. ![]() It is not a book I normally would enjoy and for much of this novel I was rather indifferent to it, but somewhere in the middle that all changed. ![]() Why We Broke Up made me recall my own past, my own stupidity, my own mistakes, and my own high school traumas. ![]()
